In 2010 she turned from performing to the study of theatre, and in 2011 received a Master’s in Literature from Northwestern University, under the advisement of Professor Tracy C. Davis.  In 2012, she began her Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies at Tufts University in Boston, where her dissertation sought to find connections between performances of mental illness on the British stage and popular medical literature during the nineteenth century.  She received her doctorate in 2018. 

 

Now, Katie uses her performance and academic backgrounds in classrooms and rehearsal spaces to create theatrical and educational events that entertain, educate, and engage members of the community.  She has taught introductory and advanced acting technique, courses in voice and speech and public speaking, theatre history, and writing and communications.  Her directing credits include Our Town, Peter and the Starcatcher, Cinderella, Legally Blonde, Witch, The Bridges of Madison County and Little Women: The Broadway Musical.  She has written and directed her own adaptations of Wilkie Collins’s The Woman in White and Henrik Ibsen’s The Doll’s House.

 

Swimm offers a variety of coaching and private lessons in acting, musical theatre technique, and audition technique and preparation.

She is always looking for her next opportunity to be creative, and loves collaboration with existing or new teams.
